Participants will learn essential stock market fundamentals, including capital formation, corporate ownership, dividends, common and preferred stock, restricted stock, American Depository Receipts (ADRs), and corporate actions such as stock splits, mergers, acquisitions, and spin-offs. The course also explores stock and options markets, electronic trading systems, and clearing processes, helping learners develop a practical understanding of the broader market environment in which SFPs are traded. Five targeted modules: The program is organized into five targeted modules covering securities fundamentals, options and futures concepts, Security Futures Products, regulatory requirements, and supervisory responsibilities. Not all participants are required to complete every module. Modules 3 and 4 are required for all individuals seeking SFP proficiency. Modules 1 and 2 are assigned based on an individual's existing securities and futures registrations, while Module 5 is required only for those seeking to function as a Security Futures Principal. This flexible structure allows participants to complete only the training relevant to their registration status and intended role.

What Are Security Futures Products (SFPs)?

Security futures are financial instruments that combine characteristics of both securities and futures contracts. They include single-stock futures and futures on narrow-based security indexes and may be traded on registered securities exchanges, futures exchanges, and certain alternative trading facilities.

Because they share features of both securities and futures, SFPs are jointly regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and may be offered only by appropriately registered firms and professionals.

Security futures are distinct from broad-based stock index futures, such as those based on the S&P 500, Nasdaq indexes, the NYSE Composite Index, or the Dow Jones Industrial Average, which remain under the exclusive jurisdiction of the CFTC.
